CGRP in relation to migraine pathophysiology
Lars Edvinsson considers the role of CGRP in the pathogenesis of migraine. Although the interaction between CGRP and its receptors in the brain is known to be associated with migraine, the mechanism remains unexplained. His pioneering work with Peter Goadsby demonstrated elevated levels of CGRP in patients with migraine and other headache types. Questions remain around how migraines start and how CGRP is involved in initiating an attack.
